Image File Size Calculator – Free Online Tool
Calculate raw image size in MB or MiB from pixels, bit depth, compression ratio, and image count.
Calculate Image Size From Pixels
Enter width, height, and total bits per pixel to calculate the tightly packed raster data. The formula is width × height × bits per pixel ÷ 8 bytes.
Compare MB and MiB Correctly
The result separates decimal megabytes, where 1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes, from binary mebibytes, where 1 MiB is 1,048,576 bytes. This prevents a common storage-planning mismatch.
Estimate Batch Photo Storage
Add the number of images to estimate a complete batch. This is useful for photo cards, scan projects, image sequences, texture sets, and upload budgets.
Treat Compression as a Planning Assumption
JPEG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF size depends on image detail, encoder settings, and metadata. A compression ratio can support planning, but only the exported file provides the exact saved size.
Inspect Image Dimensions Privately
Choose a local image to fill its pixel dimensions and compare its real compressed size with raw pixel storage. The image stays in the browser; optional analytics records only a consent-gated completion event.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about the Image File Size Calculator.
How do I calculate uncompressed image file size?
Multiply width by height and total bits per pixel, then divide by eight to get bytes. Convert the byte total to MB or MiB.
Why is my JPEG smaller than the calculated size?
The calculation models raw packed pixels. JPEG compression removes or transforms image information, so the saved file is usually much smaller.
What is the difference between MB and MiB?
One MB is 1,000,000 bytes. One MiB is 1,048,576 bytes. The calculator reports both.
Does ToolsMint upload the image I inspect?
No. The browser reads only its dimensions and file size locally.
